Long Summer Days = Lots of Choices for Kids
While summer is a time of freedom, new experiences, and fun for students, it’s also a time for summer school and camps—both great opportunities to connect with kids and start conversations. The Ask, Listen, Learn resources spark conversations with kids about how underage drinking can impact their developing brains, bodies, and behavior. All of the information is free and easy to incorporate in summer lesson plans, helping to break the ice and initiate conversations about how healthy decision-making can help kids succeed, both this summer and into the future.
Breaking the Ice
Parents are the #1 influence on kids’ decision to drink – or not to drink – alcohol. Since 2003, conversations about alcohol between adults and kids have increased by 73%, and during this time, underage drinking has declined 50%. Let’s keep up this progress by making a commitment to having conversations about the prevention of underage drinking early – and often – this summer. Parents, get started with the Ask, Listen, Learn Family Resource that’s full of tips to guide you in talking to your kids about alcohol.
Dive On In!
Parents aren’t the only ones who should be talking to students about the prevention of underage drinking this summer. If you’re leading a summer camp or have kids participating in sports this summer, take advantage of interactive activities and videos from 5-time swimming gold-medalist, Nathan Adrian, that are sure to inspire healthy decision-making and get kids moving! Students will be empowered to see the power of healthy decision-making in action as well as learn the importance of helping their peers combat peer pressure to make smart decisions, too!
